From our bulging “Don’t Touch my Junk” file:The research, soon to be published in international medical journal, Medical Education, describes - among others - a student with "no qualms" about performing an anal examination on a female patient because she didn't think the woman's consent was relevant.
They’re even lining up for it:Another case outlined in the research describes a man who was subjected to rectal examinations from a "queue" of medical students after he was anaesthetised for surgery.

DOCUMENTS HAVE SURFACED that shed some light on the lackadaisical attitude of US regulators towards last year's Google Street View privacy violations. They need more time to abuse for-profit schools between naps, I guess.
A senior attorney at the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) described the Google investigation as "a wasted summer" in a letter obtained by the Electronic Privacy Information Centre through a Freedom of Information Act request.
The letter was written only a couple of days after the FTC decided to drop its inquiry into the matter. Many privacy advocates, especially in the UK and Europe, would be aghast at hearing the attorney describe the matter as "a time suck".
Data protection organisations in the UK and Germany certainly have, unleashing considerable fury over the fact that a company that has so much data about us didn't have policies in place to stop this from happening.

Over the last few years, scientists have been baffled by the bee crisis in Britain, America and Europe which has seen numbers plummet in a decade.ARE they, or COULD they?
The claims, which appear in an unpublished study carried out at the US Department of Agriculture's Bee Research Laboratory, add to the evidence that pesticides are partly responsible for the mysterious decline of one of the world's best loved insects.

27-JAN-2011:CAIRO — Political protests may be rocking Egypt with a new, nonideological force, but President Hosni Mubarak and his allies have not veered from a playbook they have followed through nearly three decades of one-party rule.
As always, the government has responded to the unrest primarily as a security issue, largely ignoring, or dismissing, the core demands of those who have taken to the street.

The Mayans were right, the planets have aligned, an asteroid is heading for earth, the molten core at the centre of our planet has stopped turning (again) ...Yet another dytopic environmentalist "looking out for the children, and the future", no doubt. They all seem to sound like that...
our time on planet earth is up.Why not do the right thing, and off yourself know - before we get to paragragh 8?
I mean, first of all the natural disasters that have been happening with alarming frequency lately, the floods, forest fires, earthquakes, Tsunami’s, birds mysteriously falling from the sky….well it is enough to get any normal movie goer freaking out, but then, add to it the financial crisis (the banks know what’s coming obviously), the fact that no other reporter seems to have put this together (clearly a government cover up) and of course, the fact that our TV Schedules constantly pump out reality drivel like X Idol, Celebrity Strictly Come Dining, and my favourite Cat in the Attic,( why do people watch these things……….I just don’t get it, go out and play rugby instead damn you!) and it becomes clear that the powers that be are trying to lull us into some sort of apathetic coma so that we don’t go out and panic.

The Netherlands’ De Volkskrant has published an interview with Maarten Engwirda, formerly of the EU financial watchdog organization. After 15 years auditing European spending, he has ratted out the European Court of Auditors out.During his time at the court, Engwirda claims he observed several incidents of fraud which included the manipulation of reports and the “removal of traces of financial misconduct.” Describing the Court of Auditors as an institution characterised by a “culture of silence” which gives member states free rein to indulge in fraudulent spending, Engwirda does however remark that the situation has much improved since 2005

Why a massive meteorite strike could be the best thing to happen to us
io9
Well, they have had an influence on life on Earth. Consider the great Ordovician biodiversity event, which took place around 470m years ago, when there was a big increase in numbers of species. Only recently have geologists found a possible cause: a widespread bombardment of the Earth by meteorites. These would have sterilised an area a few hundred kilometres across – a major ecological disturbance but not a lethal one for a particular species.Sure. Free up space. Sounds fantastic.
In fact, what it would have done is free up space. It would have been like putting a quarry in the middle of an area that has no cliffs. Suddenly, you have all the species that live on cliffs moving into the area and increasing the local biodiversity
I don't know about you, but I'm still not getting excited.
